The Bad

The bad - Tracks in restricted areas

Making this a double entry to separate the good from the bad.

And this is the bad portion. In winter this park allows sleds and other motorized vehicles like cars on approved roads and trails only. While the major portion of the park is  closed off to mechanized travel.  This is done to protect the general seasonally  restricted access (people are permitted to wander by foot) park area from damages during the off-season.  Vehicle travel and even parking  is permitted on approved (and plowed) roads and trails to gain access to the great activities available on Lake Simcoe like ice fishing and sledding that many come to enjoy here.

I took an extended walk through and around many areas like the restricted nature reserve and several of the closed to vehicular traffic campground areas. Everywhere I went there was the sign of regular sledders ignoring the park rules and tearing up the closed off areas.
A few years back the park closed down completely to all access during the winter seasons and caused great upset to the people that liked to regularly use it for lake access and other approved winter activities.
I can foresee the park authorities clamping down on off-season access again someday, if their rules continue to so blatantly be ignored.

Which would be a big shame, I myself like to occasionally pass through the park on my way to enjoy a sled ride or do some ice fishing on lake Simcoe.
